Marketing instructor receives Fulbright funding for study overseas

A marketing instructor of Saint Paul School of Professional Studies is among the 14 Filipinos who were granted the Fulbright-CHED Scholarship that funds graduate studies at the United States.

Mr. Barnett C. Balberia, who teaches principles of marketing to college students, obtained financial support from the Philippine-American Education Foundation (PAEF) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for his Master of Science in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA this year.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration cum laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2009.

Mr. Balberia is part of the first batch of Fulbright-CHED scholars composed of 14 Filipinos from prestigious higher education institutions in the Philippines who left for the United States to pursue graduate studies and researches for free.

The Fulbright-CHED scholarship is a partnership of PAEF and CHED aimed at improving the country’s higher education system and strengthening the tie between the Philippines and the United States.

The recipients of the said grant are required to return to the Philippines after completing their program and render service to their sending institutions.

After a 10-month study leave, Mr. Balberia will return to SPSPS on May 30, 2017.

“I hope to share to all students a new perspective – how you see things – especially for us in a business school. We need to be constantly reminded that we are as good as everyone,” he said. (Story by Jerwin Bethoven del Pilar)
