NDRRMC holds Q2 nationwide earthquake drill

The National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) conducted its Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) for the second quarter of 2022 last June 9.

The event, which the NDRRMC and Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) conducted online, aimed to magnify disaster awareness and preparedness in the Philippines.

NDRRMC chairperson, Sec. Delfin N. Lorenzana said, “We have been conducting online drills considering the pandemic to continue to instill proactiveness in our people and promote preparedness in all communities.”

The drill also sought to increase the participation of the general public in promoting individual and family earthquake alertness toward community resilience.

“Ang pagpapatuloy ng mga pagsasanay na ito ang nagbibigay kapanatagan sa ating mga mamamayan, ating pamahalaan. Ang buong lipunan ay may kakahayan at hindi tumitigil sa paghahanda upang harapin ang mga kalamidad na maaring danasin ng ating bayan,” Lorenzana said. “Sa panahon ng kalamidad at sakuna, ligtas ang taong lagging handa.”

The NDRRMC urged the public to perform duck-cover-and-hold and participate in the virtual earthquake drill, which promoted preparedness in the workplace, school, or homes.

The ceremonial pressing of the alarm button for Second Quarter NSED started at 9:00 a.m. and is available in a live stream via the Facebook pages and Youtube channels of the NDRRMC and the OCD.
